New Cabinet Member for Children's Services

Sarah Gore nominated following Antony Lillis' death

Councillor Sarah Gore has been nominated to take over the role of Cabinet Member for children’s services, following the sad death of Councillor Antony Lillis in July.

Cllr Gore has already gained valuable experience as a member of the education and children’s services scrutiny committee.

Cllr Gore, who was elected in 2006 for North End ward in Fulham, will cover the role in an acting capacity until her appointment can be formalised at a full Council meeting on October 28.

Sarah has previously worked in the banking and financial services industry and has taken a career break following the birth of her second child in 2007.

She is 41 and married to a consultant surgeon. They have two children, aged five and two.

Councillor Gore says: " Despite the tragedy that has lead to my appointment, I am very pleased to be given the opportunity to undertake such a crucial role within the borough.

" As a mother of two young children I feel passionately that there is no more important role than the protection and education of our children."

She will not have full voting and executive powers until October. Until then, these responsibilities will continue to be managed by the Leader of the Council, Cllr Stephen Greenhalgh. Responsibility for community services (voluntary organisations, health and adult social care), which was also part of Cllr Lillis’s portfolio, will remain with the Leader.

" I am delighted that Sarah has agreed to join the Cabinet," says Cllr Greenhalgh. " Sarah has a wealth of valuable experience in the private sector to bring to the job, as well as a huge commitment to, and understanding of, the borough and our residents.

" Antony leaves very big boots to fill. His experience and dedication will be a hard act to follow, but we are confident that Sarah brings a new approach that will be just as effective."
