Wood Lane Attackers Jailed for Almost Six Years
Man and Woman's assault with bricks detached victim's ear
A man from Hammersmith and woman from North Kensington who carried out a vicious attack with bricks in Wood Lane, close to Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepherd's Bush have been jailed for nearly six years.
The attack resulted in their victim needing surgery to re-attach his ear.
Abdi Ahmed, 25 of Stamford Brook Road, W6 and Wafa Sheikh, 33 of Tollbridge Close, W10 were jailed at Isleworth Crown Court for four and a half years and 17 months respectively.
On July 18, 2013 the victim - a 54 year-old man - was sitting in a friend's house in Wood Lane when they heard a banging on the window.
When he went outside to see what was happening he was attacked by the pair with bricks, sticks and a bicycle. It was one the bricks which caused his ear to become detached from his face resulting in surgery.
Following calls to police, Ahmed and Sheikh were arrested by officers as they tried to get on a bus to leave the area. Both were charged with assault, affray and criminal damage the next day, July 19.
Ahmed was found guilty of Section 18 assault GBH with intent and Affray and Sheikh was found guilty of Section 20 and Affray after a trial at Isleworth Crown Court in December.
They were both sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on the 10th January.
DC Aretha Guernah, from Hammersmith and Fulham Police, said: "This attack took place near the Westfield shopping centre during the early morning rush hour and was an extremely frightening experience for the victim and members of the public who witnessed the violent and abhorrent actions of both Abdi and Sheikh.
" The impact of the assault on the victim has been traumatic and life changing. I hope this sentence will reassure the public and the victim that justice has been done."
