There was a huge police presence, including armed officers, at the North End Road Market this Saturday afternoon (2 September).

There appears to have been a collision between a silver car and a police vehicle sometime after 3pm with eye-witnesses suggesting it deliberately rammed into the police car.

At least eight vehicles attended the incident which left the car facing the wrong way across the road from McDonalds.

Our reporter saw a man being manhandled into the back of a police van and being pinned down by officers while protesting loudly as dozens of shoppers at the market looked on.

One of the officers on the scene said that it was a case of drink driving.

Initially, the Met’s press team said they could not find details of the incident and then that it was just a routine arrest despite the presence of police officers with guns when the arrest was made.

North End Road was closed at the time of the arrest but has since reopened.
