Grover is Top Dog at Ravenscourt Park Show

Proud owners parade their pets and help support the Dogs Trust

Local dog lovers were out in force on Saturday September 6 as Hammersmith & Fulham’s parks police hosted their third dog show in Ravenscourt Park.

This year’s show saw 100 dogs entered by their owners in five different classes, including best young handler, best puppy and best crossbreed. More than 400 people joined them to watch as proud owners showed off their four legged friends.

Amid strong competition, it was three-year-old Catalan sheepdog Grover who was crowned Best in Show after impressing the judges. Collecting the trophy with Grover was owner Nicole Tripney.

Hammersmith-resident of Nicole said: “I was delighted and surprised to win. It was a great day and very well organised.

" We gave Grover a home when he was just a year old and adopting a rescue dog is not easy. It has taken time and energy. But winning the trophy was great – especially as we only entered the competition on a whim!"

In the Young Handler category, it was Max – a five-year-old Pomapoo – guided to victory by Florence Green, age 8.  Florence said: " It was a very good day. I was surprised how well behaved Max was and I was very proud to win.

" We walk Max every morning in Ravenscourt Park with his dog-friend Alfie so perhaps he just felt comfortable."

Also taking part on the day were representatives from The Dogs Trust, which has given great support to the local parks police team over the years. They were also on hand to give help and advice to dog owners and to provide free micro-chipping, nail clipping and free neutering vouchers.

The show also had two special guests, Snout and Crackle, New Zealand Kunekune pigs which proved very popular with visitors.

A total of £482 was raised for the Dogs Trust from entry fees and the raffle, with prizes kindly donated by local businesses, including Sainsbury’s, Holwood Ground Care, Fait Maison and Eel Brook Restaurant. The organisers also gave special thanks to Japanese Knotweed Specialists, the show’s main sponsor.

Cllr Wesley Harcourt, Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Environment and Residents’ Services, said: " It is a fantastic day and it was great to see so many local residents enjoy the action in Ravenscourt Park."
