Hammersmith and Fulham Prepares for a Right Royal Party


Jubilee celebrations planned across the borough this weekend

Prepare to party this Jubilee weekend! Hammersmith and Fulham Council says it has received requests for 66 parties, from groups of residents from across the borough – nearly double the number of applications for last year's royal wedding.

They will join millions of people across the country will be celebrating the 60 year reign of Queen Elizabeth II over the extended bank holiday, June 2 - 5.

H&F Council is marking the jubilee with two free events in Furnivall Gardens and the newly refurbished Bishops Park on June 3, between 11am – 7pm, on the same day as the royal flotilla travels down the Thames.

There will be big screens to watch all the celebratory events, a vintage funfair, food stalls and bars, live and recorded music, dancing from the Hammersmith Morris Men and performances from local talent.

The riverside parks will offer the perfect viewpoints to watch the royal river pageant of 265 vessels mustering, from mid-morning between Hammersmith and Putney Bridges, before they set off from the official starting point at Battersea Bridge in Wandsworth.

Boats at the head of the flotilla will be passing under Putney Bridge at around 2.30pm, with the pageant officially starting at around 2.40pm.

Hammersmith Town Hall, the riverside and King Street will also be decorated with the banners, flags and bunting, while a beacon on top of the town hall will be lit on June 4.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council say that residents who have caught the party bug can still sign up for a street party to celebrate the London 2012 Games, which start on July 27.

Applications must be submitted to the council by June 29, at the latest, but residents requiring a premises licence to sell alcohol at their events will need to apply at least six weeks before their planned event.
