Transport for London has revealed that in the last year, 2009/10, a total of 8,660 lost items were handed in at bus garages and stations, Underground and Overground stations in Hammersmith & Fulham.
TfL says the most common lost objects were books, items of clothing and bags.
Throughout London the number of items handed in to Transport for London’s Lost Property Office is increasing year on year. Almost 200,000 items were handed in over the last financial year – an increase of nearly 15,000 items from the previous year.
The LPO handles items lost on the TfL network, including buses, London Underground, London Overground, DLR, Licensed taxis or in Victoria Coach Station.
Julie Haley, TfL’s Lost Property Office Manager, says: " If someone loses a bag, mobile phone or any belongings, please check with us because we may just have it. Over 8,500 items found in Hammersmith & Fulham were handed in to the Lost Property Office in the last 12 months.
" Whatever you have lost, always report it as one of your fellow travellers may well have hand it in to us.
“We do our best to reunite people with their property and would encourage anyone who loses something on public transport in London to get in touch with us. Ideally though we don’t want anyone leaving things behind and would like to remind passengers to keep hold of their belongings and take a quick look around before getting off public transport.”

Clothing - 1385
Bags - 987
Phones - 806
Keys - 527
If you have lost property on public transport, you should wait two working days, which TfL says is the minimum time it takes to reach the LPO.
