Mayor Holds Gala Dinner for Walking with the Wounded

Tickets on sale now for charity night at Stamford Bridge

The Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham is hosting a special Gala Dinner in aid of a charity that has Prince Harry as one of its main supporters.

Walking with the Wounded raises money and publicity for Britain’s brave wounded servicemen and women and has been chosen by the Mayor, Cllr Frances Stainton to benefit from the event.

The Gala Dinner will take place at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium on Thursday November 3.

Walking with the Wounded was featured on BBC1 recently with Prince Harry walking with wounded soldiers to the North Pole. The charity have since represented him at the 9/11 10th Anniversary in New York, following which they were invited to The Pentagon and the aircraft carrier Intrepid.

Money raised will help the charity organise an expedition that aims to put four wounded servicemen on the summit of Mount Everest.

A Local soldier, one of Col Boyd's men, a member of 4 Para based in the borough, is one of only nine wounded soldiers chosen to train for this assault on Everest. He is invited to the evening together with Harry Parker who was the inspiration for the Walking with the Wounded Charity.

The Mayor, Cllr Frances Stainton, said: " I was so impressed by the courage and achievement of these men and also the many other kinds of help given by Walking with the Wounded that I felt I had to do my bit towards this next great climb to the top of the world, so they are my Mayor's Chosen Charity.

"  My Gala Dinner, generously sponsored by Chelsea FC will be for them. I hope as many people as possible will attend the evening and back this very special cause."

The Gala Dinner will also feature a fashion show, with clothes designed by the renowned French Couturier, Rachel who dressed some of the guests for the recent Royal Wedding. The show includes a dress entirely of poppies, one for each soldier who gave his life in Afghanistan.

There will also be plenty of £10 Gala draw prizes including dinner for two at Mosimann’s. The auction will include holidays to luxury villas in South West Turkey and Croatia, Chelsea match tickets for two in a special hospitality package and the Mayor gives a reception in the Mayor's Parlour.

The Gala Dinner is being staged in the Harris Suite at Stamford Bridge – one of the best function suites within the stadium’s west stand named after legendary club captain Ron Harris with entry to view the floodlit pitch.

Tickets are available by application to the Mayor’s Office, Hammersmith Town Hall, King Street, W6 9JU, making cheques payable to The Mayor of H&F Appeal Fund.
