H&F Residents Offered Opportunity to Cut Energy Costs

After council joins other boroughs in collective bargaining scheme

Residents of Hammersmith and Fulham now have the opportunity to cut the cost of gas and electricity after H&F Council joined a collective purchasing scheme which has saved residents in other parts of the capital hundreds of pounds a year.

The council is joining 23 other London boroughs this summer to deliver the next phase of the Big London Energy Switch – a scheme that helps residents to club together to secure lower energy prices by using a third party to switch provider.

Since April 2013, 48,000 Londoners have registered for the Big London Energy Switch, joining a total of 286,000 residents nationwide.

Londoners who switched energy suppliers have saved an average of £120 a year on their energy bills with around 1.8 million households now covered. 

Cllr Andrew Jones, H&F Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, says: " Residents have told us that spiralling energy bills are hitting them hard. That is why this council wants to do everything we can to help hard-pressed residents save money.

" I encourage everyone who wants a chance to reduce their fuel bills in time for the winter to sign up now."

Local people have until October 13, 2014 to register their interest at Big London Energy Switch .

Following the registration period, a "reverse auction" will take place with energy companies bidding against each other to offer the lowest tariffs in the hope of winning thousands of new customers.

The company that offers the cheapest price will win the contract and the more people who sign up to the scheme, the more money they are likely to save individually.

There is no obligation to accept the offer to switch energy supplier following the auction and savings are not always guaranteed, as they depend on how much energy you use and your current tariff.
