Plans for large new hospitality complex taking up two floors with the Olympia development including the Grade II listed Pillar Hall have been announced.
The venue which will include a restaurant, a cafe/grill, a central bar, an outdoor dining space and a basement speakeasy as well as a 600-seat music and events venue is the brainchild of hospitality industry entrepreneur Des Gunewardena
The 30,000 sq ft Pillar Hall was built in 1885 by architect Henry Edward Coe and the new venue, which is scheduled to open next year promises to retain many of the original design elements.
This will just be one of 30 bars and restaurant in the £1.3billion Olympia redevelopment which also include two exhibition halls, two hotels, office space, at theatre and a 4,000 seat music area run by AEG on the 14-acre site.
Gunewardena was quoted in Restaurant magazine as saying, “Olympia is a much-loved British institution, but many people might not have been there for a while.
“With these plans, that’s going to change big time. The new Olympia is going to become a globally recognised entertainment and leisure destination bang in the middle of West London, and we are excited to be a part of it.”
The announcement comes after the Incipio Group confirmed plans to bring an ‘elevated F&B offer’ to the site with several different offerings of “premium dining and drinking experiences” in 39,000 sq ft across the site.
Ed Devenport, chief executive of Incipio Group, said, “Olympia is without doubt the most exciting opportunity we have come across as a group; its rich history, tradition, cultural and creative significance make it a stand-out destination within the UK. It presents an unmatched canvas for us to curate experiences that are not just about food and drink but about creating memories. We understand the legacy of this iconic landmark and see it as an opportunity to blend its rich and fascinating past with the vibrancy of its future.”
