Tuesday, 10.30pm - All Quiet in Hammersmith and Fulham

Heavy police presence in town centres

The streets of Hammersmith and Fulham are still quiet at 10.30pm on Tuesday evening, in contrast to Monday when nine people were arrested in Fulham as police tackled outbreaks of "sporadic disorder".

There is a heavy police presence, particularly on Shepherd's Bush Green and Hammersmith Broadway, and many stores, estate agents and local institutions including Fulham Football Club, Riverside Studios and the W12 shopping centre, closed early as a precaution. Some also emptied their window displays or boarded up their windows.

The result of these measures is that the three town centres have so far remained quiet, unlike last night when a group of youths clashed with police on North End Road and started fires on the Clem Atlee Estate.

We'll bring you more news as we receive it, and you can also get updates on the situation across London on Met Police's website.

Police say Operation Withern is investigating the disorder and violence, and  an incident room has been set up. Anyone with information should call the Major Investigation Team on 020 8345 4142.

The team is being led by Detective Superintendent John Sweeney, and is made up of detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, specialist investigators from the Public Order Branch and police support staff.

Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous can contact Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
