A Primary Concern

School application process has begun

The application process has begun for children due to start primary school in the coming year, the Council has advised.

By law, children should start school in the school term after their fifth birthday. In Hammersmith & Fulham, children can start school in the reception class in either September (autumn term) or January (spring term).

For the 2010/11 intake, this means children will start school either in September 2010, if their birth date is between 1 September 2005 and 28 February 2006 or in January 2011, if their birth date is between 1 March 2006 and 31 August 2006.

Anyone whose child is due to start in the reception class in September 2010 or January 2011 should have applied by 15 January 2010. Parents will be sent an offer of a place on 29 March 2010.

Parents are advised to read the information on the Council's website about local primary schools and to contact the schools themselves to get more information and arrange a visit.

Parents can apply online from 1 November 2009 or pick up a paper application form from any local authority nursery or primary school.

Parents can choose up to three primary schools, which can be ranked in order of preference.

Online applications must be submitted or application forms returned by 15 January 2010.
