The children at Flora Gardens Primary School in Brackenbury Village received a visit recently from a professional cricketer after winning a competition.
Fi Morris, who has represented England Women in both T20 and One Day International formats, was there as part of an initiative to encourage students to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle.
Fi, who plays for the Manchester Originals in The Hundred, shared her experiences as a professional athlete and deliver coaching sessions.
Fresh from the Finals of the Charlotte Edwards T20 Cup, Fi travelled to the capital and kicked off with assembly for the Year 5 and 6 classes, where she shared her personal sporting journey, from picking up a bat at the age of three to her current experience as a professional cricketer.
The morning continued with an active session on the playground, as Fi encouraged the children to get involved and enjoy the sport of cricket.
The special appearance was made possible through a collaboration between The Mintridge Foundation and Active Digital. After entering and successfully winning an online competition organised by The Mintridge Foundation, a charity that harnesses the power of positive sporting role models to enhance the lives of young people, in collaboration with Active Digital, Flora Gardens Primary School earned the chance to receive the exclusive visit.
Reflecting on the day, Fi Morris, said, “I loved my day down at Flora Gardens Primary School - it was so inspiring to see so many kids loving their cricket and making me feel welcome. I’m really grateful to Active Digital and the Mintridge Foundation for making the day happen!”

During the visit, a circuit of three core skills was set up for Fi to highlight the basics around batting, bowling, and catching. Fi’s gentle one-to-one support and her fun nature wowed the children, who were buzzing between the stations.
Speaking afterward, Niamh Cullen, Teacher at Flora Gardens Primary School, added, “A massive thank you to Mintridge Foundation and Active Digital for coming to Flora. The children had an absolute ball and really enjoyed the whole experience. Thanks again for making this opportunity happen.”
Harnessing the power of positive sporting role models, The Mintridge Foundation has been providing school children across the country with long-term mentorship to nurture their talents and wellbeing through sports since 2015. To date, it has supported 197 schools and clubs to deliver 516 bespoke programmes, reaching thousands of young people across the country.
