Londoners Must Register to Vote by Monday April 18

Last chance to make sure your voice is heard in May 5 London elections

Londoners are being reminded that they must register by Monday April 18 to have the chance to vote for the Mayor of London and the 25 Members of the London Assembly on Thursday May 5.

London Elects says the people you vote for in these elections are responsible for many aspects of your everyday life – from the underground, local bus services and policing, to green spaces, air quality and Trafalgar Square.

You can see a full list of candidates both for the Mayoral and Assembly elections here.

To register online, simply visit Register to Vote. It only takes a few minutes but you need to have your National Insurance number to hand.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council is also urging local residents to make sure they are registered.

" There are important elections coming up this year which will decide the future of London and we want all local residents to be able to have their say," says Nigel Pallace, Returning Officer for Hammersmith & Fulham.

" Check if you’re registered to vote. And sign up if you need to. Registering to vote is quick and easy. Don’t miss out on votes which affect your life."

The council points out that being registered to vote may also improve your credit score, making it easier to get a mortgage, mobile phone contract or a loan as the electoral roll is used by credit rating companies.
