Calling all Budding Jamie Olivers!

Schoolkids invited to enter borough's Young Chef of the Year

If you have a budding Jamie Oliver in your family, here's their chance to be discovered.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is calling on teenage schoolkids to don their aprons and enter the annual Young Chef of the Year competition.

The competition is open to all 14 - 16 year-olds who go to school in the borough, with the winners of each school’s heat competing in an hour-long final on February 23 at the TASTE Restaurant at Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College in Barons Court.

The young chefs will have to prepare a two-course meal – a main course plus either starter or pudding – in one hour from fresh ingredients, costing £6.50 in total.

For an application form please contact the commercial services team on 020 8753 1081, or email commercialservices@lbhf.gov.uk.

Application forms can also be downloaded from the council website. The deadline for entries is Monday January 23, 2012.

The winner in 2011 was Kieron Joseph, 14, a pupil at The Bridge Academy who beat five other finalists to the title.  Kieron impressed judges with his menu of honey balsamic lamb cutlets, sautéed sweet potato, creamy leeks with apricots and avocado, pomegranate and rocket salad.
