John Humphrys to Chair Borough Summit

BBC presenter will help local people Quiz the Leaders

BBC presenter John Humphrys has agreed to chair Hammersmith and Fulham's Quiz the Leaders meeting on Tuesday, Nov 10.

The summit, which will be at Hammersmith Town Hall in King Street from 7pm to 9pm, will give residents the chance to grill council, health, police and fire leaders under one roof.

Mr Humphrys, who lives in the borough, will lead what could be a lively debate, as he chairs a panel including Council Leader Councillor Stephen Greenhalgh, NHS Hammersmith & Fulham Chairman Jeff Zitron, Detective Superintendant Steve Cassidy and Borough Fire Commander Steve Lumb.

Some of the topics up for discussion include Crime, Heathrow expansion, the planned Thames Tideway Tunnel and Streetscene and Planning.

The latter topic is close to Mr Humphrys' own heart, as he recently  joined the voices campaigning against the Goldhawk Block - the redevelopment of the Goldhawk Industrial Estate, home to drinks company Innocent and the Soundhouse recording studio, where he had recorded programmes for over 20 years.

Mr Humphrys said he was "wholly opposed" to controversial plans to demolish the current estate and create 57 homes and eight commercial units. Despite his and others' vocal opposition, the council has given the plans the go ahead.

The development may well be one of the subjects under discussion at the summit.
