Why Not Enjoy The September Out On The River?

Putney Town Rowing Club- Learn to Row Courses 2013

PTRC is well known for its regular and successful learn to row courses for adults. In the last five years, we have introduced over 250 people to rowing through our popular learn to row courses with many rowers transitioning to senior crews. We provide a safe and enjoyable environment for complete beginners to experience the wonderful sport of rowing. All beginners become members of the Club and benefit from regular social events and free use of the facilities, including indoor rowing machines and a well-equipped weights gym.

The courses run over a course of six weeks at a cost of around £110 per person. There is one indoor tank-based session (usually on a mid-week evening) and two sessions on the water on a weekend afternoon (usually around 1pm – 5pm).

Over the duration of the course you will learn: -

  • How to handle rowing equipment (boats, blades, riggers, rowing machines)
  • The basics of rowing technique on the water and on rowing machines
  • How to improve your fitness through rowing

When the six weeks is up, we sincerely hope you will have had a fulfilling first experience with rowing. Should you develop a hunger to take this further, you can choose to stay on at the club and row as part of a development squad. Here you will be able to take what you’ve learnt forward and progress with in a competitive team. If however, you decide that rowing is not for you, you may simply end your membership with PTRC.

If you are interested in joining the learn to row course, please register your details and we will contact you by email as soon as the next course is announced (usually around 4-6 weeks before it starts) with an invitation to an open day where you can look around the club and take part in a short rowing machine challenge. If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQs at the bottom of this page or contact us learntorow@putneytownrc.co.uk.

Get involved!

Rowing is sometimes referred to as the ultimate team sport. When rowing in a crew it is very important to work together and in unison in order to get the maximum speed out of the boat. As such, the Learn to Row course is designed for those wishing to get involved with a competitive team sport. PTRC is very proud to strike an excellent balance between striving for competitive success and encouraging a sociable, friendly environment.
