Jail for man who killed his friend during drunken row

A W12 man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of Pawel Grabowski two years ago.

 

25-year-old Lucasz Staskel of Richmond Way was jailed for stabbing Grabowski to death during a drunken fight in a flat the two men shared.

 

He pleaded guilty to the murder, which took place on 21st December 2006, and will serve a minimum term of 11 years.

 

Staksel’s neighbour, 22-year-old Kamil Paluch, also of Richmond Way, was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for perverting the course of justice after he helped Staksel in the wake of the attack and misled police about what had happened.

 

Staksel and Grabowski, who shared a room in a Shepherd’s Bush squat, were both from Poland and had come to London separatley to work in the building trade.

 

On the night of the attack, the pair had been drinking and smoking cannabis together when a fight broke out between them.

 

Staskel grabbed a knife and stabbed Grabowski repeatedly before dragging him downstairs. He then changed his clothes and left the house to spend the night with his friend, Paluch.

 

He told Paluch what had happened and when the pair returned to the address the next day, they realised that Grabowski was dead.

 

Staskel then made his way to Hammersmith Police Station where he alerted police and handed himself in.

 

A post mortem gave the cause of death as multiple stab wounds.

 

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Sarwar, who led the investigation said: “The attack left Mr Grabowski with in excess of 30 knife wounds in a sustained attack of extreme violence that is incomprehensible when considering the motive was a minor squabble.

 

“Whilst our thoughts are with the victim's family, there can be no sentence to reflect their grief and lifelong anguish. It is hoped that the sentences handed down today are a stark warning to those who are prepared to pick up a knife.”
