Borough in Bloom

Show off your gardening skills in annual contest

Entries are now open for this year’s Borough in Bloom competition.

So whether you are a beginner or expert gardener you can now register your pride and joy before the closing date of Friday 12 June.

There are ten different categories, including window box, balcony, sprawling lawn or community garden, and it is free to enter.

Judging will take place in July and the winners will be presented with their Gardening Voucher prizes and certificates at a ceremony in the Autumn. Judges will be looking for effective use of plants, colour, layout, good cultivation and maintenance. Special consideration will be given to gardens which include environmental benefits, such as water recycling or gardens that attract wildlife. The winners of some categories may also get the chance to represent Hammersmith & Fulham in the capital-wide competition ‘London in Bloom’.

To promote Borough in Bloom in schools, pupils have been busy designing posters that will be used to encourage people to enter the competition. The winning entry was Jennifer Cumse, aged 8, from Wormholt Park Primary School.

Cllr Paul Bristow cabinet member for residents’ services, said: “This is a great chance for green-fingered residents to get out and about in the fresh air and be creative with Hammersmith and Fulham’s green spaces. The displays, which were wonderful last year, will also help make the borough look more inviting so residents can be proud of where they live.”
