New computer technology block for local school

Phoenix High School has opened a new state-of-the-art computer technology block.

More than £2 million was spent on redeveloping the Roisin Walsh building at the Shepherd's Bush secondary school. The information computer technology block, named after the former head of the ICT department and assistant head, has five classrooms and up to 180 pupils can use the equipment at one time. Local residents, adult learners and various community groups will also use the new ICT building, which opened at the end of April.

Sir William Atkinson, head teacher of the school, said the innovative technology, including wireless access, and lay-out of the building would help students.

"It is designed to be flexible and to simulate an office rather than a school environment, so that students are able to prepare for their future careers. The vision is for the whole community to benefit from this development and we are looking to increase the provision of adult learning we already offer,” he said.

Councillor Antony Lillis, H&F Council cabinet member for community and children’s services, said: “Buildings like this fantastic ICT centre will go a long way to help students enhance their skills and abilities. These projects, along with £120 million Building Schools for the Future funding, are helping to provide first-class education and opportunities for young people in the borough.”
