Samantha Cameron Launches Save the Children Campaign at Westfield

PM's wife also reads to pupils from Larmenier and Sacred Heart Primary School

Wife of the Prime Minister and Save the Children ambassador Samantha Cameron has launched the charity’s Christmas partnership with Westfield with a special appearance and book reading at Westfield London, Shepherd’s Bush.

This year Westfield Stratford City, Westfield London and Westfield Merry Hill will raise awareness and funds for Save the Children’s vital work through a series of exclusive festive events.

Samantha, who became an Ambassador for Save the Children in 2011, visited Westfield London to meet a group of children from Larmenier & Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School who competing in the annual choir competition to raise funds for Save the Children.

She gave the children a special reading of The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. After the reading at Foyles Bookstore, Mrs Cameron joined the children in decorating Christmas Baubles which will be sold in aid of Save the Children in the run up to Christmas.

Samantha said: "It was a pleasure to share one of my children’s favourite books this morning to launch Save the Children’s new Christmas partnership with Westfield.

"It is heartbreaking that eight million children under five die each year and I’m proud to support Save the Children’s life-saving work and the No Child is Born to Die campaign."

Save the Children's partnership with Westfield will continue throughout the festive season until mid-January 2013, with London's two Westfield Centres in White City and Stratford both hosting a series of special events and activities to raise funds, including book readings from renowned authors Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and Save the Children ambassador, Michael Morpurgo.

Shoppers will also be surprised by secret busking from a number of Universal artists, including Gypsy Queens, who came to prominence through their amazing busking performances. There will also be exclusive ice skating events, exciting grotto experiences and Limited Edition Christmas Baubles sold in aid of the charity.

On December 1, a digital advent calendar will launch on Westfield's website with a competition offering the chance to win luxury items that will make fabulous Christmas presents for friends and family.
