New baby for GMTV presenter Kate Garraway

GMTV presenter Kate Garraway left Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital in Du Cane Road on Thursday (July 30), two days after giving birth to her second child.

The new baby boy, named William Garraway Draper, weighed in at 7lb 12 oz.

Speaking on GMTV by telephone on Friday morning, Garraway said she had rushed home from Queen Charlotte's early to be with her three-year-old daughter Darcey who had been unable to visit her new brother in hospital.

“We wanted her to come to hospital straight away, but because of the of the swine flu restrictions she wasn't allowed to,” Garraway said. "We are in seventh heaven and keep grinning from ear to ear. Billy is so beautiful,” she added.

Speaking to her fellow GMTV presenter Ben Shephard on-air, she also paid tribute to Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital staff, saying: “I was at the same hospital that you had yours and you know how lovely they are there, I was frankly quite tempted to stay for a while.”

A statement from GMTV said Garraway had had a natural birth.

Queen Charlotte's has a midwifery-led birth centre that has won two national awards for its homely environment. It is mainly for women with uncomplicated pregnancies who choose natural childbirth.

Garraway said she and her husband were overjoyed at the arrival of their new son: "He's lovely, we're just in that lovely bubble of bliss at the moment actually, it's been fantastic, and he seems to be sleeping quite well so far. He had an awful lot of wind last night, but apart from that he's fine!"

The TV presenter is married to psychotherapist and former Labour spin doctor Derek Draper.

She is due to return to the GMTV sofa in the autumn.
