Elderly man fights for his life after collision with moped

A teenager has been arrested following a hit and run in Shepherd’s Bush this Wednesday afternoon (30 March) which left an elderly man critically injured.

At around 4.50pm, near the junction of Uxbridge Road and Devonport Road, the 88-year-old man was hit by a cream coloured Piaggio moped as he was crossing the Uxbridge Road. The force of the impact threw the pensioner across the road.

The moped's rider fell off but he then remounted and made off towards Loftus Road prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

The man suffered serious head injuries in the collision and remains in hospital in a critical condition. His relatives have been notified.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday (31 March) on suspicion of failing to stop after an accident. He currently remains in custody at a west London police station. A moped has also been recovered within one mile of the scene of the collision.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to the collision, or anyone who has information that may assist police to get in touch.
