An elderly man has died in hospital after being hit by a scooter on the Uxbridge Road at the end of last month.

The 88-year-old man passed way on Monday 4, April after being knocked over 5 days earlier in Shepherd's Bush in what police are describing as a hit and run incident. He has yet to be named but his next of kin have been informed.

At around 4.50pm on 30 March, near the junction of Uxbridge Road and Devonport Road, the man was hit by a cream coloured Piaggio moped as he was crossing the Uxbridge Road. The force of the impact threw the pensioner across the road.

The moped's rider fell off but he then remounted and made off towards Loftus Road prior to the arrival of the emergency services. The man suffered serious head injuries in the collision.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday (31 March) on suspicion of failing to stop after an accident. He was taken to a west London police station for questioning and has now been bailed to a date in mid-May. A moped has also been recovered within one mile of the scene of the collision.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to the collision, or anyone who has information that may assist police to get in touch.

Anyone with information should contact detectives at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Alperton Traffic Garage on 0208 991 9555 or phone CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111 if you do not want to give your name.
