Attack on Hemlock Road left him unconscious

Three men from Shepherd's Bush have been sentenced to a total of three and a half years imprisonment for affray and actual bodily harm against a police officer.

Michael Luke, 28, Paul Luke, 30 and James King, 26 all of Wallflower Street, W12, were sentenced on Friday 15 June, at Isleworth Crown Court.

Michael Luke and Paul Luke were sentenced to 12 months each for affray. James King was sentenced to 18 months for affray and actual bodily harm against 27-year-old PC Sean Tucker. They all pleaded guilty to the offences on Tuesday 8 May at the same court.

Police were called in the early hours of 12 March 2011 to reports of a man being chased by a group of youths who were armed with a knife on Hemlock Road, in the W12 area. On arrival officers found a man being assaulted, who they attempted to help at which point they were set upon by a group of men including the three convicted.

PC Tucker was kicked, punched and thrown across a front garden where he hit his head and was knocked unconscious. PC Guillibaud called for urgent assistance and more officers arrived. They were forced to use CS spray to stop the violence and defend themselves.

A number of men were arrested and Paul Luke, Michael Luke and James King were subsequently charged. One other officer received a hand injury which required hospital treatment.

PC Tucker was hospitalised and required surgery to insert an artificial ligament in his leg. He has still not returned to full duties.

PC Luke Williams, the officer in charge of this investigation, said: "I am pleased with the sentence today and feel it demonstrates that the courts treat assaults on police officers extremely seriously".

Chief Superintendent Lucy D'Orsi, Borough commander of Hammersmith and Fulham, said: "Officers responded to a member of the public being attacked and suffered appalling injuries whilst protecting a young man. The sentences given to those involved illustrate that society is not prepared to tolerate attacks on members of the community and those who are there to protect them."
