Three of Shepherd’s Bush’s most popular bars are getting upgrades, ranging from an extensive refurbishment to new signs and lighting.

The Hawk's Nest, the Goldhawk Road bar created in 2019 within a disused railway arch and courtyard west of Shepherd’s Bush Market, has been only partially open this summer while its leafy hidden garden was being renovated with the installation of a fully retractable roof.

The bar, which specialises in pizzas and cocktails, says with its entire outdoor space covered over this will mean more events in future with live music and a later closing time.

The bar hopes its now covered garden will be fully opened later this month and adds on its Facebook page, “ It will be transformed into the luscious green garden that it was before, just better!”

As we reported earlier this year, The Defector’s Weld is being given a major makeover by pub group Young’s to extend its outdoor space, with a new raised granite paved courtyard complete with trailing plants and mirrors, new accessible facilities and new signs, menu boxes and floodlights.

The Uxbridge Road pub, which Young’s describes as “a valued part of the Shepherd’s Bush community” has now closed to allow these renovations to go ahead, with a message on its website saying, “ We’re getting a facelift. That’s right, we’re getting a sparkling new look and (quite a bit more than) a lick of paint.

“ Unfortunately though, this means closure, and it’s quite some time. We are now closed and will be reopening again in late November. Hopefully it’ll fly by, so we can get back to serving up the best cocktails, pints and food in Shepherd’s Bush.”

Over on Shepherd’s Bush Road, the Richmond pub is being given a more modest facelift with brewers Greene King applying to Hammersmith and Fulham Council for permission to remove its existing signs and replace them with more contemporary illuminated signs and amenity boards. You can see this application on the council’s website using reference 2023/01839/ADV.

The plans also envisage brightening up the outside of the building with new awnings and plants, but fans of the historic pub’s very traditional interior decor can be reassured it is remaining untouched.
