An opportunity for children to play music and sing

Local children will have an opportunity to try out a whole host of musical instruments at special sessions taking place in schools over the coming months.

The Council’s music service offers a wide range of musical experiences for children and young people, who either attend state schools in the borough or live in the borough.

The service offers pupils who attend state schools subsidised instrumental tuition, a free instrument for the first year of tuition and an assisted instrument purchase scheme. It also offers the opportunity to all to participate in orchestras and choirs free of charge.

After School Music Centres, which are  open to children who attend state schools, take place on the following days:

Tuesdays: Wendell Park Primary, Cobbold Road, W12, from 4pm to 6pm.

Instruments available are clarinet, guitar, keyboard and saxophone.

Wednesdays: Pope John Primary School, Commonwealth Avenue, W12, from 4pm to 6pm. Instruments available are euphonium, guitar, trombone, trumpet and violin.

Saturday Music Centre (open to children who attend state schools): Latymer Upper School, King Street, W6.

Range of sessions between 9.30am and 1.30pm. Group and individual instrumental tuition for intermediate and advanced players; ensembles and orchestra; improvisation, aural and composition classes.

The music service also offers the following activities which are free of charge and open to all children and young people who are resident in the borough:

Mondays: Wendell Park Primary, Cobbold Road, W12, from 4.15pm to 5.15pm.

Steel pans are available for pupils in year 3 and above.

Mondays: Latymer Upper School, King Street, W6, from 6.15pm to 7.30pm.

This is a Training Orchestra session for beginners up to Grade 2 or silver music medal.

Wednesdays: Latymer Upper School, King Street, W6, 5pm to 5.45pm.

Children’s Choir (school year 2 to 4) 6pm to 7.00pm. Youth Choir (school year 5 plus) 7.15pm to 8.30pm. Youth Orchestra (grade 3 plus or silver music medal).
