A Splashing Time

Free swimming for under-16s in August

Under-16s will be able to swim for free at the Janet Adegoke Swimming Pool in Bloemfontein Road throughout the month of August.

From 1st - 31st August, children aged under 16 can swim with a parent or guardian at family sessions for free between 10.00am and 12noon daily.

Those aged between nine and 16 can swim for free unaccompanied between 2.00pm and 4.00pm daily

The NHS Hammersmith and Fulham initiative, which is also being supported by the Council, has been set up to help tackle obesity in school age children.

Dr Dagmar Zeuner, NHS Hammersmith and Fulham director of public health, said: “One of the best ways to combat childhood obesity is by getting youngsters interested in being active from an early age and we're committed to achieving this.

"Swimming is great for your muscles, heart and lungs and is a fun way to let of steam - perfect for getting rid of excess energy."

Cllr Paul Bristow, cabinet member for residents' services, said: "This is excellent news for young people in the borough. NHS Hammersmith & Fulham and the council are committed to improving the health and well-being of all residents, especially young people, so make sure that you make the splash."

To take part, look out for registration forms which have been given out by schools and are also available at libraries, children's centres and leisure centres.

Simply fill out the registration form and take it to either of the two pools, along with a one-off £1 registration fee.
