Farewell party before new owners take over Bush's favourite bunker

Saturday night is the end of an era in Shepherd's Bush as current owners Tammi Willis and Colin Welsh say farewell to Ginglik.

Ginglik of course is a club uniquely located in a converted subterranean Edwardian public convenience, which was built to serve the spectators of the 1908 Olympic Games at nearby White City.

Tammi and Colin converted it from a snooker club in the summer of 2002, into a lush bunker venue that has hosted  live music, comedy nights, club nights, cabaret nights and art exhibitions for the past 11 years.

Now however, they have decided to move on, with the club about to get new owners - and possibly a new name.

To celebrate the occasion, they are throwing a farewell party on Saturday June 15 from 7pm till 4am with a line-up including Jerome Hill, Vent, Count Sizzle, London Bass Club Djs and a rare appearance behind the decks by co-founder Colin, playing some of his favourite tunes. 

Ginglik is a members only venue but it’s free to join, just bring photo ID with you and join on the door by filling in a short application form. You can then sign in guests. Members must be over 21 and guests must be over 18, and anyone who is or looks 18-20 must have valid photo ID to prove their age.

Tammi took time out from the party preparations to tell us about some of her favourite memories of the Ginglik years:

The Japanese Theremin Orchestra. Packed house, about 15 Japanese theremin players playing pop and orchestral music... on theremins! Pretty mental.

The Best of The Buskers. After each musician played they jammed together which was great fun. The first but not the last time we've had the pleasure of watching Puncture Kit and MC Xander.

Robin Williams. A surprise set at Laugh one night to a packed audience due to Lenny Henry, Rob Rouse and Adam Hills.
The Dance Off Crew engineering hilarious dance offs in a makeshift boxing ring on our 8th birthday. Col and Count Sizzle trying to dance on an oiled lino was the highlight!

The Wonky Olympics with ridiculous games like space hopper racing and sock wrestling outside on our roof for our 10th birthday.

Any time Popes of Chillitown play especially when they get a conga going throughout the whole club, sometimes ending up taking the entire club outside!

The Shoestrung playing at The Sizzle Suite. They were so young when they first played at Ginglik but so incredibly talented, we love them.

All our fancy dress New Years Eves, Halloweens, Birthdays and Burlesque events where our members all made such an effort to dress up.

And a night we probably shouldn't mention, the Tyson vs Lewis fight at 4am in a packed club back in June 2002 when we had only opened two months previously and should have been closed at midnight. Though I don't think we'll be held to account for that now!

Summing up their time at the club, Tammi and Colin say: " It ’s been a truly amazing 11 years and we’d like to thank the many people who we have worked with over the years to make the club a success. Hopefully very soon we will have a new chapter for the venue to tell you about. So please come join us for what could be Ginglik’s last event."
