Imperial College Unveils Plans for Next Phase of White City Campus
Give your view on plans site south of Westway by Friday 16 June
The proposals cover the part of the campus south of the Westway (A40), on a site which was once used as a dairy.
The plans include a 32 storey 'tall building' on the southernmost point of the site, while other buildings would be between six and 14 storeys.
The development would consist of two flexible development zones built around a 150 metre long open central space, which would be open to everyone and could be used for local events and exhibitions.You can see an artist's impression of the space below.
Around this space, the buildings will feature activity at ground floor level. Imperial says specific plans are still developing, but this could include cafés, retail, event or exhibition spaces which would be open to the public.
The site would also have new accessible connections through the site and beyond, including an underpass under the Westway and a new land bridge across the Central line.
The university, which focuses on science, engineering, medicine and business, is inviting residents to come and view the proposals and give their feedback.
The public are invited to view the proposals and give their feedback online before the deadline of Friday, 16 June.
The college said it will consider all feedback received before a planning application is submitted to Hammersmith & Fulham Council later this year.
"We’ve made a long-term commitment to White City. We are already working with organisations across the area to make a real difference to the community," said Professor Neil Alford, associate provost (academic planning), at Imperial College London.
"As part of this, we want local people to come and find out more about what’s happening, and give us their feedback on our draft proposals for the White City campus.
"This is part of our commitment to involve our neighbours in the community at an early stage and long into the future."
Imperial already has an established presence in White City with several buildings either open or under construction on the part of the campus north of the Westway.
Later this year, Imperial will open The Invention Rooms – a new facility on Wood Lane providing workshop facilities, design studios and meeting spaces where local residents of can bring their ideas to life.
Research and tech-focused businesses are now moving into the Translation & Innovation Hub (I-HUB), a building dedicated to companies which turn research into new products and services.
The northern part of the campus is also home to 600 postgraduate students, and a new residential building is under construction.
