Imperial College Invites Feedback on Next Phase of White City Campus
New proposals now online and comments to be submitted before 27 October
After holding a series of consultation events last week, Imperial has published the details of its plans online - and is inviting feedback from local people before the deadline of 27 October.
Imperial says five buildings are under construction or already complete at the north site, between the Westway and Sinfield Street, while the final two plots – seen here as A and G – require detailed planning permission before construction can begin.
The proposals say that:
Plots A and G provide a stepping down of height from the 35-storey residential building to the terraced houses on Shinfield Street
Plot A steps from the terraced houses on Shinfield Street up to meet plot G
Plot G steps up from plot A on Wood Lane, responding to the scale of the residential building

The façades of A and G respond to both the architecture of other buildings nearby and environmental factors, such as sunlight/glare control and heat gain
Both plots will draw on a palette of materials which responds to the surrounding area – the brick terraces of Shinfield Street, buildings along Wood Lane, and the emerging materials within the northern part of the campus.

Imperial says the proposals are the next step for its new White City campus, where academic researchers will work alongside innovative businesses and the community to solve global challenges.
Future research at the campus could include finding new ways to prevent dementia, creating new solar power technologies, or helping the body to repair itself after surgery or injury by growing new bone or cartilage.
In the proposals, Imperial says it is also:
Developing more detailed plans for the landscaping and public realm for the whole site (north and south of the Westway), including the pedestrian links into the site from Shinfield Street and Wood Lane
Working on new booking arrangements for Brickfields Community Hall to make it easier for local residents to use this facility
Create an open and transparent ground floor, providing a more attractive gateway into and out of the campus on Wood Lane
Provide new cafés and restaurants, adding more activity to Wood Lane and opening out on to the public realm
Its other community commitments include looking at the demand for nursery centre provision carefully as part of Imperial’s wider childcare strategy, taking a phased approach as the community grows.
Other S106 commitments include a health centre and an educational outreach facility and Imperial says it is continuing efforts to deliver an underpass between the site and Latimer Road in RBKC by working with LBHF, RBKC, the Westway Trust and Network Rail. It has also made a number of financial contributions, including more than £250,000 for local transport
Professor Neil Alford, Associate Provost (Academic Planning) at Imperial College London, says: "We have listened to the feedback that we received at our consultation earlier in the year and we are keen to hear what our neighbours in the area have to say about how the plans have developed.
"We’re making a long-term commitment to the community at our White City Campus and we hope that everyone will take the opportunity to get involved."
