Charlotte Le Rougetel brings the latest news from Wormwood Scrubs

Parkrun 167 - August 16

It feels a bit like Groundhog Day writing the run report this week because I’m going to start with a big congratulations to Martin GILLIES for passing his driving test, a bit like last week, only this time he actually did take the test. And here’s the proof he passed.

Another massive round of applause to Andrea BROUGHTON who returned to parkrun today after a couple of weeks out in Africa where she successfully conquered Kilimanjaro with her son Michael.

Not done yet with the praise, well done Matilda FERRAND who picked up her parkrun 50 tee shirt today. And finally, one last whoop to Ben LE ROUGETEL for completing the Prudential Ride London last Sunday in 5 hours and 2 minutes despite the torrential rain, thunder and lightning.

So back to parkrun and it was a lovely day at Wormwood Scrubs this morning, warm but with a bit of a breeze to make it more bearable. This week there were 45 runners, of whom nine were first timers and nine recorded new Personal Bests. First (and first male) over the line - his fourth win in 9 appearances - Alessandro EUSEPI in 20:03. First female over the line was Marta SAWICKA in 22:19, the first time she has run at Wormwood Scrubs.

Despite the BRYDSONS not attending this week, Fraser and Marion are still holding firm at the top of their respective points tables, though Fraser is leading Alessandro with a tiny gap of just nine points. They ran the York parkrun while they were away and Marion smashed her previous PB by over two minutes with a run of 27:19. I hope that Ben and I did a good job of filling in for them behind the ‘bar’ at the TVH clubhouse post-run. We had no complaints, anyway, so fingers crossed.

Classic line of the morning goes to run director (and massive Spurs supporter) Rob FERGUSON who confessed that he occasionally gets his nan’s birthday mixed up with Teddy Sherringham’s.

Thank you, once again, to our volunteers Charlotte LE ROUGETEL, Gideon REID, Manuel CORRIENTE, Rizwan RAUF and Robert FERGUSON. Still looking for a time keeper and someone to hand out the finish tokens next week so if you are able to volunteer please do. parkrun can’t take place without our volunteers so we really appreciate it when you can help. Just email us at wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com.

Have a great week everyone.

Charlie

Parkrun 166 - August 9.

Great morning on the Scrubs for our 166th parkrun with a turnout of 39 putting up with the heat and humidity. Ground was nice and soft thanks to the overnight rain but not overly wet or slippy, thankfully.

We were low on volunteers this week thanks to the summer holidays but also because one of our run directors Martin GILLIES had taken the morning off to take his driving test. At the time of writing this, we don’t actually know if he passed or not, but we hope we’ll be saying congratulations to him next week. Before we get onto the finisher results, I also want to say a big congratulations to William PAYNTER, who has completed five half marathons in the last 11 weeks!

Right. First home today among the women was Danielle ROBERTS in a time of 21:37 and her third win in three appearances. First male home - Gideon REID - in 18:52, also his third win but in 11 appearances. Wormwood Scrubs parkrun’s couple of the year 2013 and 2014 are dominating the points tables with Fraser BRYDSON leading the men’s table with 699 pts and Marion BRYDSON heading the women’s table with 746 pts. We shall miss them ‘behind the bar’ when they are away next week. Seven of our runners today were first timers and two recorded new Personal Bests. Congratulations to Lokwalo THABENG and Gregory WATSON.

Big thank you, of course, to this week’s volunteers: Robert FERGUSON, Nick MICHAEL, Ben LE ROUGETEL, Fraser BRYDSON, Marion BRYDSON, Kirstie TEW’s mum, and Charlotte LE ROUGETEL. We’re still looking for a timekeeper and a barcode scanner for next week so if you can help out please email wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com.

And finally a massive good luck cheer to Ben LE ROUGETEL who is cycling the RIDE 100 in London tomorrow despite the weather chaps predicting storms for the capital. Have a great week everyone. See you next Saturday.

Charlie.
