Scrubs Runners Help Parkrun Celebrate 10th Birthday

With ten first timers and ten new personal bests on October 5

Parkrun 174 - October 5

Happy 10th birthday parkrun! World home of parkrun, Bushy Park had an amazing 1,705 runners to celebrate the 10th anniversary.

We had a bulge in attendance also with 55 runners, of whom 10 were first timers and 10 recorded new Personal Bests were set. Only one ‘fancy dress’ though, well done Alex PELLEW!

A lovely autumn morning with everyone home and showered before the rain came in from the west.

First male home was Andy FOOKS (VM35-39) of Thames Valley Harriers, was first over the line in 17:26 - second time in 2 appearances. An unknown runner was second. Martin GILLIES (SM25-29) of West 4 Harriers, was third over the line in 20:08.

First female home was Danielle ROBERTS (SW25-29) (Unattached) was first (10th overall) over the line in 22:29 - 4th time in 4 appearances. Jessica JONES (SW30-34) (Unattached) was second (28th overall) over the line in 27:02. Fiona LAVELLE (SW25-29) (Unattached) was third (31st overall) over the line in 27:27.

Current standing in the Men's annual points competition has a familiar look to it: Rizwan RAUF (Unattached) 1213 pts. Nick MICHAEL (Thames Valley Harriers) 1174 pts. Peter JORDAN (Thames Valley Harriers) 1115 pts. From now on it may well turn into an attendance and punctuality competition like last year – turn up 30+ more times and that five inch trophy could be yours guys!

Current standing in the Women's annual points competition has two front runners, both absent today: Marion BRYDSON (Thames Valley Harriers) 1130 pts. Charlotte LE ROUGETEL (Unattached) 1074 pts. Kirstie TEW (Unattached) 858 pts in third place.

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Wormwood Scrubs parkrun Results Page.

Several runners were wearing their new parkrun kit bought online. The kit looks great but not as good as the hard earned 50, 100 or 250 t-shirts which can’t be bought anywhere. Well done to Hugh FERRAND and James DOE who both picked up their 50 t-shirts. Well done also to Fran SANTOS on his 50th run, t-shirt on order.

Absent today both Marion and Fraser BRYDSON had an hour of TV stardom when they appeared on Location, Location, Location. They even got to go to Kirsty’s own house! If you missed it, with one or two other parkrunners appearing also, catch it here.

Finally, many thanks to the volunteers this week: Anita AFONSO, Debbie PETERS-MILL, Martin GILLIES, Manuel CORRIENTE, Nick MICHAEL, Candace BOVILL-TAYLOR, Peter JORDAN, Gideon REID and Ben LE ROUGETEL.

Please volunteer for future runs, current rota here. Email wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com to get yourself on to the roster.

Happy running and see you next week.
