Charlie Le Rougetel reports on the latest Parkrun

Parkrun 178 - November 2

Another lovely crowd on the start line this morning at Wormwood Scrubs parkrun with 51 runners joining us for our 178th meeting. The weather was chilly and the ground soft in places, but this was the morning after the hottest ever Halloween on record and it didn't take long to realise there was still a lot of humidity in the air.

First over the finish line was Ryan MCCRICKERD of London Heathside Runners AC in 18:43 - his first appearance at Wormwood Scrubs. He was followed by regular Gideon REID just seven seconds later. Gideon has taken first place on four previous occasions. Daniel KEAM-GEORGE was third over the line in 19:11. First female over the line this week was Phillippa KEAST in 20:27, her second time in two appearances. Rose BARKLE and Sarah BARKLE were second and third.

Rizwan RAUF remains top of the men's annual points table with 1526 pts and has pulled away from his championship Peter JORDAN (1441 pts) and Nick MICHAEL (1418 pts).

Leading the women's annual points table is Charlotte LE ROUGETEL (I thank you ;)) with 1365 pts, followed Marion BRYDSON (1130 pts) and Kirstie TEW (1053 pts.) who pulled a new PB out of the bag this week with a run time of 27:14. She was joined on the new PB chart with eight other runners today including regulars Colm DOHERTYRaoul MANSUKHANI and David NELSON

Big thank you to our volunteers run director Andrea BROUGHTON, Charlotte LE ROUGETEL,  James DOE, Kate O'DONOGHUE, Kirstie TEW, Manuel CORRIENTE, Martin GILLIES and Peter JORDAN, and to Rob FERGUSON for expertly looking after Poppy O'DONOGHUE.

Next week we are still looking for someone to help with pre-event set-up. For the rest of November, Martin GILLIES is pretty much in the table on his own so if anyone can help, please let us know - just email wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com.

Parkrun 177 - October 25

Last weekend may have been our first muddy run on Wormwood Scrubs this season, but this weekend was our first chilly run. A light mist and a lot of dew covered the ground and the week's rain had left the terrain soft underfoot. 56 runners joined us for parkrun, many of whom were new faces to us, so welcome to you all, we hope you return, and ten were first timers. One visitor was Colin Robson who is run director at South Shields parkrun. While he was running Wormwood Scrubs parkrun our own run director Martin Gillies was up in the north east running at Colin's home course.

Colm DOHERTY was first over the line in 20:07, his second time in 30 appearances. Rosie VALLANCE was first female to finish in 21:26, her 5th time in 15 appearances and a new PB for Rosie. Eight other runners secured personal bests, including regulars Lesley Richardson and Barbara Maddison, and our second placed runner Nuno Monteiro - congratulations to all of you.

Current standing in the men's annual points competition and Riz is peeling away leaving Peter and Nick with a very close competition on their hands.
Rizwan RAUF (Unattached) 1447 pts.
Peter JORDAN (Thames Valley Harriers) 1359 pts.
Nick MICHAEL (Thames Valley Harriers) 1337 pts.

Current standing in the women's annual points competition:
Charlotte LE ROUGETEL (Unattached) 1268 pts.
Marion BRYDSON (Thames Valley Harriers) 1130 pts.
Kirstie TEW (Unattached) 953 pts.

Congratulations to Andrea Broughton who ran the Snowdonia Marathon on Saturday in a fantastic time of 4:10, despite, in her words, "the MASSIVE hill that went from mile 22 to 24 - so cruel! And welcome home Kirstie Tew, who conquered Kilimanjaro earlier in the week and brought some amazing photographs to the clubhouse for us to see.

Thank you to our volunteers - Ben LE ROUGETEL  •  Candace BOVILL-TAYLOR  •  Charlotte LE ROUGETEL  •  Fran SANTOS  •  Nuno MONTEIRO  •  Peter JORDAN  •  Rizwan RAUF  •  Robert FERGUSON. Next week we're looking for a timekeeper and someone to set up the course, so if you're free please drop us an email to wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com. The roster is also looking pretty bare on the 8th and completely empty on the 15th so please help if you can. A reminder that we're planning a Christmas social on Saturday 6th December at a local bar. If you'd like to join us, please email us at wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com or take a look at the event page on Facebook.
