Newcomers join the regulars on Saturday's breezy parkrun

Parkrun 205 - May 9

A dry and reasonably warm spring day greeted today’s 49 runners at the 205th Wormwood Scrubs parkrun. The course, still knobbly from a period of dry weather, was not too hard underfoot; the wind, though gusty was not overwhelming; and all in all, I think conditions could be described as ‘enjoyable’.

Our volunteers, without whom parkrun couldn’t happen, were run director Martin GILLIES, still smiling from his amazing time in the London marathon, Manual CORRIENTE on finish tokens, Fraser BRYDSON manning the urn in the TVH Clubhouse to keep us all topped up with tea and coffee and flapjacks, Kate O’DONOGHUE  on run report. Charlie LE ROUGETEL on barcode scanning (taking a well-earned and, I understand, welcome break from run report writing) and William PAYNTER on timekeeping are resting before tomorrow’s Hackney Half Marathon, while Peter JORDAN on post-event close down and Kirstie TEW, pre-event set up, are ‘resting’ for the event by both volunteering AND running an additional fifty percent round the course. Go get’em! Good luck tomorrow to all.

Congratulations to Candace Bovill-Taylor, the Sweatshop monthly prize-winner for April. Candace has run 44 times at the Scrubs and has volunteered a few times this year. She's also encouraged her daughter to become involved by volunteering.

There were 14 first timers – looking forward to seeing you again, please do come back – and nine PBs – great work Andrea CALDERWOOD, Anthony BALL, Kate VOSS, Dan KNIGHTLEY, James DOWDALL, Alex FLEMING-BROWN, Gregory WATSON, Paul WOODGATE and George REES.

In the women’s points competition, with only four weeks to go, Charlie LE ROUGETEL is now unbeatable, but there is everything to play for for second place. Kirstie TEW and Marion BRYDSON both crossed the line in 29:57 but honours were awarded to Kirstie who is now one point ahead.

In the men’s points competition, Rizwan RAUF’S lead is not unassailable with both Peter JORDAN and Nick MICHAEL theoretically able to steal his current first place, should they find a way to keep Riz away from parkrun between now and June 13th.

The following runners recorded the best Age Grade scores:
George REES (VM55-59) was graded 76% for the time 20:13 (second overall).
Andrew STOCKWELL (VM45-49) was graded 70% for the time 20:33 (4th overall).
Paul WOODGATE (VM40-44) was graded 67% for the time 20:19 (third overall).

The female placings were:
Danielle ROBERTS (SW25-29) (Unattached) was first (10th overall) over the line in 22:15 - 9th time in 9 appearances.
Sarah TAYLOR (SW30-34) (Unattached) was second (23rd overall) over the line in 24:56.
Kate O'DONOGHUE (VW45-49) of Thames Valley Harriers, was third (30th overall) over the line in 26:50.

And for the men:
Mattia CHIODI (SM25-29) (Unattached) was first over the line in 19:17 - second time in 5 appearances.
George REES (VM55-59) (Unattached) was second over the line in 20:13.
Paul WOODGATE (VM40-44) of Thames Valley Harriers, was third over the line in 20:19.

Parkrun pooches in attendance were Harry (Brydson) who posted a sub-30 minute PB of 29:57 and Lola (Le Rougetel) and Poppy (O’Donoghue) who were happy to swan around in the sun rather than extend themselves too energetically.
