Indian Summer Brings Perfect Conditions on Wormwood Scrubs |
And parkrunners relieved to hear course's mega-potholes have been filled in
Today dawned bright and sunny – perfect running conditions for our parkrun. As 55 runners gathered on the startline to be briefed by run director Debbie Peters-Mill, the word was that the massive potholes near the back straight of the course had been filled in. And yes, they had – main hazard successfully removed! In fact, the course is pretty good at the moment: quite soft and not yet too slippy. Doesn’t stop it being a challenging run, though! First over the line today was Thomas Mitchell, a parkrun first-timer, in 18:10. He was followed by Scrubs regular Christian Nielsen, in a new PB of 18:20 and Dylan Kennedy in 18:30. First woman over the line was Andrea Broughton of Thames Valley Harriers, in 23:26, followed by Sarah Taylor in 24:31 and Karen Svendsen in a new PB of 26:13. Well done, everyone! The highest age grade of the day, 74.45%, was achieved by Christian Nielsen. There were only three new PBs today – in addition to Christian and Karen, a new PB of 26:36 was achieved by Ghassem Maqsudi. Well done! There’s a long way to go yet, but the current standings are as follows. Female points table: Male points table: Thanks to this week’s volunteers: We rely on volunteers, so if you’d like to get involved in volunteering at the Wormwood Scrubs parkrun, please email wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com. Good luck to all those running the Ealing half marathon tomorrow! Happy running and see you next week! Andrea Parkun 224 - September 19 A total of 64 keen parkrunners massed on the startline for this morning’s parkrun. A good showing, by Wormwood Scrubs standards. Conditions were good and the course is still in good shape, despite the mega-sized potholes on the back straight. Advance pockets of mud were, however, making a shy appearance here and there, warning us of things to come. First man over the line was Christian Nielsen from Thames Valley Harriers, in 19:41. He was followed just one second later by Caspar Donnison of Aberystwyth AC, in a new PB of 19:42. James Spender was third, in 19:59. First woman over the line was Gemma Carter of Serpentine RC, in 21:25, followed by first time parkrunner Rebecca Lindon in 23:23 and Andrea Broughton of Thames Valley Harriers, in 23:43. Well done, everyone! The highest age grade of the day was achieved by Andrea Broughton, on 71.54%, with Dave Gardner second on 71.50% and Hugh Ferrand third on 69.58%. There were 9 new PBs today: in addition to Caspar, congratulations go to Lars Gunnar Kalvenes, Mustafa Hassan, Stephen Hutchinson, Victor Hutchins, Andy Stevenson, Max Coelho, David Gubbay and Philip Corser. There is still everything to play for in the points tables. The female points table is currently as follows: The male points table is: Today marked Marion Brydson’s 100th parkrun, and she also hit her target of finishing in under 30 minutes. Well done Marion – here’s to the next 100! She was treated to golden macaroons made specially by Kirstie Tew, chocolate from Kate O’Donoghue and a pear from Colm Doherty.
