Runners' Numbers Swell on Wormwood Scrubs

First timers very welcome to join weekly Saturday park runs

It's all about Wormwood Scrubs regular James Spender this week: first over the line, top of the men's points table and second in the age grading. Nice one James, congratulations.

We had 57 runners join us this week with a bright sun high in the sky and blanket of fog enveloping the grass. It was a beautiful morning for a run. Given this time last year we were recording numbers around the 20s, we're thrilled with how many people are joining us for Wormwood Scrubs parkrun, we hope you all become regulars and join us every week, especially the 12 first timers!

Two runners recorded PBs this week - congratulations Andrew John Jackson and Louis Samuels.

Second over the line behind James today was Daniel SHARPE (SM25-29) (Unattached) in 21:16 and in third place Lars Gunnar KALVENES (SM25-29) (Unattached) in 22:04. Sian KIRK (SW25-29) of Swansea Harriers AC, was first female finisher, just 44 seconds behind Lars. Jessica PRIOR (SW20-24) of Imperial College Cross Country & AC was second female finisher in 24:40 and Andrea BROUGHTON (VW50-54) of Thames Valley Harriers, was third in 25:29.

Current standing in the Men's annual points competition - still super tight this week:
- James SPENDER (Unattached) 2415 pts.
- Nick MICHAEL (Thames Valley Harriers) 2392 pts.
- Manuel CORRIENTE (Vegetarian Cycling and AC) 2322 pts.

Current standing in the Women's annual points competition - HOW CLOSE?:
- Andrea CALDERWOOD (Unattached) 2090 pts.
- Kirstie TEW (Thames Valley Harriers) 2060 pts.
- Marion BRYDSON (Thames Valley Harriers) 2047 pts.

The following runners recorded the best Age Grade scores:
- Andrea BROUGHTON (VW50-54) was graded 66.58% for the time 25:29 (26th overall).
- James SPENDER (VM40-44) was graded 66.16% for the time 20:47 (first overall).
- Simon RUBENS (VM50-54) was graded 65.11% for the time 23:13 (11th overall).

Many, many thanks to our volunteers this week, especially Kirstie Tew who is battling a nasty chest infection but still turned out to put the flags out and take photographs. Others giving us a critical helping hand were:

Ben LE ROUGETEL  •  Charlie LE ROUGETEL  •  Fraser BRYDSON  •  George Robert BARNES  •  Kirstie TEW  •  Louise BROWNE  •  Marion BRYDSON  •  Rachel WILLIS  •  Robert FERGUSON  •  Stephen HUTCHINSON

So many people give their time to volunteer week on week and we couldn't do it without you. It would be great to welcome more of you into the volunteer fold - if you can help, please do, parkrun is not possible without our volunteers. Just drop us an email at wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com

Have a great week.

Charlie

Thanks very much to Bruce Li our visiting film maker on Saturday. Check out his film from a wet and muddy Wormwood Scrubs last Saturday - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQdiIRCRQx8&feature=youtu.be
