Parkrunner Joins the Hundred Club

Paul Barnes comes second in landmark run

Parkrun 268 - July 30

The day dawned bright but not as hot as in recent weeks, which was a blessing. The course was fully dried out and so the main obstacle was dodging the brambles in the back straight, which were starting to encroach upon the path.

50 runners lined up at the start, including a grand total of 15 first-timers. You’re very welcome, guys and I hope you enjoyed it. First man over the line was William McAvock of Serpentine RC, in a new PB of 19:36. He was followed by Paul Barnes in 20:00 and James Spender of Thames Valley Harriers, in 20:33. First woman over the line was Sarah Wren in her first run at the Scrubs, in 23:11, followed by Rachel Moloney in 24:39 and Rebecca Johnstone from Ravenscourt Park Runners, in 25:01.

The runner with the highest age grade was William McAvock, with 72.87%, followed by Paul Barnes, with 70.92% and Sarah Wren, with 70.60%.

Special mention goes to Paul Barnes, who celebrated his 100th parkrun, and to Ghassem Maqsudi who celebrated his 50th parkrun, all of which have been at the Scrubs – very well done to both of you.

Thanks, as ever, to the volunteers, without whom this event wouldn’t happen: Andrea BROUGHTON, Peter JORDAN, Ben LE ROUGETEL, Aidan MCKAY, Nick MICHAEL, Debbie PETERS-MILL and Gideon REID. Thanks to Ben in particular for sorting out the results for me, as I had to dash off afterwards.

As you know, we rely on volunteers, so if you’d like to get involved in volunteering at the Wormwood Scrubs parkrun, please email wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com. The schedules are looking a bit empty for the next few weeks.

Don’t forget that you can also donate to the Scrubs parkrun online.

Happy running,

Andrea
