Princess Victoria Pub Holds Pork Pie Off

Sample top chefs' pies and support Action Against Hunger

The Princess Victoria pub in Uxbridge Road is hosting a Pork Pie Off today, Monday March 3 to raise funds for global charity Action Against Hunger.

The Pie Off, which is also part of British Pie Week, running from today until March 9, will see top chefs battle it out to create the best pork pie.

Chefs taking part include Matt Reuther, chef at the Princess Victoria, Peter Weeden of the Newman Street Tavern, Dom Chapman, The Royal Oak, Parley Street and TV chef Andy Bates, who is also known as "The Pie Man".

Each pie will be judged by restaurant critics Joe Warwick and Tom Parker Bowles, and the editor of consumer food magazine Olive, Christine Hayes.

The public will also be invited to score the pies on taste and texture.

A sample of the pies, along with complimentary craft beer, will be available to everyone buying a ticket for the event.

Doors at the Princess Victoria, at 217 Uxbridge Road, open at 7pm, with final judging at 9pm. Each ticket costs £10.

The pub was originally a tram stop, before being transformed into a Victorian gin palace, and then a pub. Chef Matt Reuther has worked for No 1 Lombard St, Foliage at the Mandarin Oriental hotel, and Marco Pierre White’s three-Michelin starred Oak Room.

Action Against Hunger is an international humanitarian organisation committed to ending child hunger. Recognised as a leader in the fight against malnutrition, Action Against Hunger saves the lives of malnourished children while providing communities with access to safe water and sustainable solutions to hunger.
