Celebs and Sports Stars to Take on MPs at Loftus Road

Spectators welcome at match raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis Trust

Celebrities and sporting stars including Gus Poyet, Omid Djalili, Alastair Campbell, Dalton Grant, Darren Campbell and Southampton FC defender Danny Fox will take part in a charity football match held at the home of QPR, Loftus Road on Tuesday May 21, kicking off at 10am.

MUSE bassist Chris Wolstenholme, DJ Spoony and Daybreak Sports Reporter Gavin Ramjaun are also playing on the team alongside Cystic Fibrosis Trust supporters and David Brooks, who has cystic fibrosis and plays for the Colchester United disabled team.

The celebrity Cystic Fibrosis Trust XI will be challenging the UK Parliamentary Football Club including MPs Steve Rotherham, Gregg McClymont, Ian Murray, Graham Jones, Mark Pritchard, Gavin Barwell and David Burrowes with more to be confirmed.

The match aims to help beat cystic fibrosis and QPR have kindly donated the use of their ground for free.

Singer Natalie Coyle will also be performing on the day.

Phillip French, Manager of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust XI team says: "The UK Parliamentary FC will have their work cut out in trying to beat the Cystic Fibrosis Trust XI, who have won almost every match.

"We have a great line up this year and with the addition of a premiership footballer, the MPs job will be even harder."

Most people don't understand what cystic fibrosis is, or what it does, until someone close to them is affected by it. They soon discover it's a life-shortening genetic condition - only half live to celebrate their 40th birthdays. It causes the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, to become clogged with thick sticky mucus, resulting in chronic infections and inflammation of the lungs.

The Nicky's Whisper Challenge Trophy Football Match, sponsored by National Grid, is now in its tenth year. The teams are playing for the trophy in memory of Nicky West, who had cystic fibrosis and was a tireless ambassador for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Spectators are welcome at the game in exchange for a donation. For more details, email Katie.burr@cysticfibrosis.org.uk .
