Local Charity of the Year Sought

Sainsbury's invites residents to nominate charity partner

Sainsbury’s on Shepherds Bush Green is inviting customers and colleagues to nominate a local charity to be the store's official charity partner for the year.

The chosen charity will work in partnership with Sainsbury’s staff to organise fundraising events, including charity collections. Staff will also support the chosen charity through volunteering.

Residents can nominate a local charity between 6th May – 26th May 2009 by completing a nomination form and putting it into the ‘Local Charity of the Year’ voting box at the front of the store. Sainsbury’s will then draw up a shortlist from all the nominations submitted.

Representatives from the three shortlisted charities will be asked to visit the store to talk to Sainsbury's about what they do and how the Sainsbury’s team can support them. The store's ‘Local Charity of the Year’ will be chosen from the shortlist and announced to customers in June. The store will then work with the charity throughout the year through volunteering and fundraising.

Store Manager Pratik Patel said, “By supporting a local charity we can give something back to the community by helping with fundraising and volunteering. Clearly it’s important that we find a
charity that is close to the hearts and minds of our customers and colleagues so I would encourage everyone to come into store and vote.”

The 'Lcoal Chairty of the Year' initiative is part of Sainsbury’s 140th birthday celebrations which will take place at the end of May.
