Phase Three of Shepherd's Bush Green Roadworks Begins

Lanes closed on Green and Uxbridge Road for next twelve weeks

Phase three of works by National Grid replacing gas mains around Shepherd's Bush Green has begun on schedule and is expected to take approximately twelve weeks to complete.

This phase involves single lane closures on both Uxbridge Road (opposite Shepherd's Bush station) and Shepherd's Bush Green (outside W12 Shopping centre).

The pedestrian crossing on Shepherd’s Bush Green, outside W12 Shopping Centre, has been moved 11 metres away, but remains fully open with people still able to cross the road easily and safely.

The new works began immediately after the completion of the second phase of vital gas mains replacement work ahead of schedule, and the reopening of the westbound stretch of Shepherds Bush Green between Holland Park and the W12 Shopping Centre.

It had been closed since late January while engineers replaced ageing metal gas mains with long lasting new plastic pipes, and National Grid says the reopening on February 22 was three days ahead of schedule.

National Grid construction operations engineer Patrick Nathan said: "National Grid always aims to keep disruption to an absolute minimum, so I am really pleased that we have been able to finish this part of the job ahead of schedule. This has been possible due to the co-operation and patience of all involved and the hard work of our team on site.

" Projects such as these are challenging but this has been handled in a highly efficient way. As we move into the final phase of this work we’ll continue to do all we can to complete this job as promptly as possible with the minimum of disruption."

He added: " At the end of the job the local community will be able to enjoy the fruits of our labour as the new pipes will help ensure they can keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for many years to come."

This project concludes over three years of work by National Grid to revamp local gas mains. Work is being delivered by National Grid in partnership with Skanska.
