Phoenix High Celebrates Landmark Year with Huge Boost in GCSE Results

While 65% at Burlington Danes gain A* - C grades including English and Maths

Students at Phoenix High in White City are celebrating a landmark year for the school with huge improvements in GCSE results.

Almost a half - 48% to be exact - achieved five A* to C grades including English and Maths – a massive increase of 14% on last year.

Chemistry results were particularly impressive with 42 per cent receiving an A* or A grade.

The boost in academic performance came as the school prepared to convert to academy status by joining the Future Academies Trust

Headteacher Michael Taylor praised his tudents and hailed the start of a new era for the school.

“These results are a remarkable improvement on last year and set the school firmly on the path to future success,” he said.

“They are a testament to the hard work and commitment of the staff and of the excellent attitude to learning of our students. All the staff are proud of what our students have achieved and we offer them our congratulations.”

He added: “Our conversion to an academy will enhance our work to improve the school and the outcomes for our students.”

At Burlington Danes Academy, over 100 students are heading to the sixth form after securing another impressive set of GCSE results.

Around 65% achieved the benchmark five A* to C grades including English and Maths – and Principal Michael Ribton expects more than half to continue their studies at the school in Wood Lane.

“I’m very proud of our Year 11 students. They have worked very hard over the last year and really deserve to do well,” he said. “We are a community school with no selection criteria so it is just the local area that we serve.

“My job is all about destinations and making sure that they have all got something to move forward to.

“I’m also very proud of our teaching staff who have worked incredibly hard once again. We ask a lot of our teachers and year after year they deliver.”
