Fundraising drive for homeless charity preparing for aftermath of pandemic

The Upper Room has come up with an innovate way for you to give them support whilst taking exercise in line with current government guidelines.
They are asking for people to Walk A Mile, Donate £5 to The Upper Room, and Nominate 5 friends to do the same. You can make your donation to the Upper Room online.
Maria O'Flynn said, “The Upper Room has been around for 30 years - we have never had to deal with a global pandemic, close our doors, or offer a remote service. Our fundraising has taken a hit, and in the months ahead there will even greater competition for funds. When we come back, we will have unprecedented numbers to feed and support back into employment, and we need to be ready. “
The charity is dedicated to helping local homeless and other disadvantaged people, serving up 26,000 hot meals every year and giving one-to-one support at its headquarters at St Saviour’s in Cobbold Road.
It was founded as a soup kitchen at the Wendell Park church, at the western end of Shepherd's Bush.
Before the coronavirus lockdown it was providing free three-course meals for up to 80 people on weekday evenings, from 5.30-6.45pm and running a multilingual jobs support service from noon-5pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, and helps teach ex-offenders to drive, in return for 80 hours of voluntary work.
Since 2010, 190 ex-offenders have gained driving licences through the project, significantly improving their employment prospects, and in the past three years the charity has helped more than 200 in-need service users to secure jobs.
