Public Invited to View Revised Plans for Walkabout Site

Exhibition will show lower building retaining facades and with cinema in basement

Dorsett Hospitality International, the company behind local hotel Dorsett Shepherd's Bush is inviting residents to a Public Exhibition of revised plans for site of the Walkabout pub, next to the hotel on the west side of Shepherd's Bush Green.

The Public Exhibition will be at Dorsett Shepherds Bush, 58 Shepherds Bush Green on Tuesday January 26 from 2pm to 8.pm.

The revised proposals have been designed by Flanagan Lawrence Architects who were responsible for the award-winning restoration of the Dorsett Hotel. The main points from the revised proposals are:

  • There will be no tower
  • The building will be considerably lower at the front and rear than the previous proposal
  • Retaining parts of the existing building, mainly the facades
  • There will be a cinema in the basement
  • The building will be lower at the rear facing Pennard Road

The new building will be an extension to the existing hotel and the ground floor will provide additional hotel restaurant space.

The company says that in addition, it proposes to significantly improve the Rockwood Place environment so that it provides a safe, secure and attractive pedestrian route from Pennard Road to Shepherd’s Bush Green.

And it says before submitting a planning application to the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham it would very much welcome residents' comments and hearing their thoughts on the proposals.

Members of Dorsett International’s professional team will be on hand at the Public Exhibition to explain the proposals and to answer questions.

These revised plans come after a previous application for a 16 storey high tower on the site of iconic Walkabout pub was refused by Hammersmith and Fulham Council after opposition from residents and organisations including the Hammersmith Society.

The seven storey Dorsett Shepherd's Bush is set within a Grade II listed building, built in 1923 originally known as The Shepherd's Bush Pavilion, and retains the building's historic façade. It has over 500 Chinese inspired rooms, plus restaurants, business facilities and spa.

Shepherd's Bush Walkabout, the pub on Shepherd's Bush Green fondly nicknamed SheBu Walkie by London's Australian, New Zealand and South African communities, closed in 2013, after its owners Intertain sold the site to Dorsett Hospitality International for an undisclosed sum.

The project also sparked discussion on our forum and you can join the talk and give your views here.
