TV Centre Development to Include Soho House Hotel

New branch of private members' club will have rooftop pool and restaurant

The redevelopment of BBC Television Centre is to include a new branch of private members' club Soho House, along with its own 47 bedroom Soho House hotel with restaurants and a rooftop swimming pool and terrace.

Plans for Soho House Roof Terrace on roof of BBC TV Centre

The plans were revealed to Shepherd's Bush residents in public exhibitions held by the main gate of the centre on Wood Lane.

The exhibitions were held by the BBC along with development company Stanhope, part of a consortium which paid £200 million for a long lease on the iconic building in July last year.

The plans showed off improvements to original plans which were approved by H& F Council in December.

Revisions to the plans originally submitted late last year include demolishing Stages 4 and 5, which will be replaced by a "more sustainable and efficient new 10-storey office building with improved facades".

This will be the home of London's newest Soho House.

"The partnership with Soho House is key to our promise that Television Centre will be the best serviced new community in London," said David Camp, chief executive of Stanhope.

Soho House first opened in London's Greek Street in 1995 and has expanded the brand globally across 11 clubs worldwide, including Miami, West Hollywood and Berlin.

"West London has always been a spiritual home for Soho House, with Electric House, Notting Hill opening in 2002 and High Road House, Chiswick in 2005," said Nick Jones, chief executive of Soho House. "The area has a rich and varied tradition of creative talent and the development of Television Centre will provide a worthy addition to the area and a new home from home for members to work and relax in."

A new nine-storey office building fronting Hammersmith Park on the site of the old BBC restaurant block has also been proposed.

Stanhope intends to submit a revised planning application by the end of May.

Part of Television Centre is already being refurbished to create a new headquarters for BBC Worldwide, with staff due to move in early next year.

Studios 1 to 3 will also be refurbished throughout 2014, to be operated by BBC Studios and Post Production from April 2015.

At that stage, major construction will start on new entertainment and leisure facilities, public open space, offices, housing and a boutique hotel, along with new pedestrian routes through to Hammersmith Park and beyond. The plans include a media business hub, around 1,000 new homes, a cinema, gym, restaurants and cafes.
