Wormholt Park is Prepared for Olympic Glory

News of new flowers and unusual visitors from park friends

Here is the latest news from the Friends of Wormholt Park.

A Met Police horse called Lochie based at Hammersmith has been frequenting the park, he is recovering from an injury and has been seen a few times going through his exercises to help him return to full fitness. Wormholt Park Friend Leye, and his son Idris are seen here giving Lochie a friendly pat.

Flower beds

Several of you had noted and appreciated the wild flowers that have appeared next to the Sawley Road entrance gate. The red poppies and blue cornflowers had an almost jubilee feel. In contrast you won’t fail to notice the formal rows of brightly coloured flowers alongside the main path which have been planted to mark the Olympics – go take a look!

News ALERT…bats!
JUNE 24, 2012
For those of you interested in wildlife and nature there is good news, a bat was seen in the park by two Friends late evening last Tuesday. Seen flitting at speed it was most likely Britain’s smallest bat a common pipistrelle, they are only 4cm long and weigh about 5 grams – less than a £1 coin! and can eat over 3,000 tiny insects in a single night!

This is the third year running that bats have been recorded in Wormholt Park, and the Friends have registered the park with the Green City Bats scheme. If you are keen to get more involved with the park around the issue of nature and wildlife just get in touch through our email wormholtpark@gmail.com.
