Sulivan School Closure "Called In" by Education Select Committee
Committee meeting set for Wednesday February 5 at 10am
Hammersmith and Fulham cabinet's decision on January 20 to close Sulivan Primary School in Fulham has been "called in" by the Hammersmith and Fulham Education Select Committee.
The call in meeting has been set for Wednesday February 5 at 10am in the Small Hall of Hammersmith Town Hall.
The Education Select Committee is responsible for oversight of Cabinet decisions, and the highly unusual "call in" means that more than 50% of the members have voted to challenge the Cabinet decision.
Parents and local residents fighting to save the school say that for practical purposes this means that the Cabinet decision to close the school cannot be implemented until this is resolved.
The call in meeting is public, and the campaigners are urging local residents to attend.
They are also expected to turn out in force at a full council meeting taking place tonight, January 27 at Hammersmith Town Hall, with a rally planned for 6.30pm before the meeting begins at 7pm.
During the meeting, local people and opposition councillors will be questioning the council.
Campaigners will also take a letter of protest to 10 Downing Street this Friday morning, meeting across the road at Richmond Terrace from 10.45am and delivering the letter at 11.30am.
