Parents are advised to apply early for local schools

Parents of children who are due to start primary school in 2009 are advised to obtain a schools admissions form as soon as possible.

Application forms are now available from all state primary and nursery schools, libraries, information centres and the Council’s children's services department.

Parents can also pick up the new starting school booklet which provides a wealth of information on the borough’s primary schools. This document is now available online by visiting http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/admissions.

This year, the Council is encouraging parents to respond online, at the address above. Parents who do so will receive their results sooner than those who apply on paper. Those who apply online will be able to access their results from 7am on May 1 2009 while those who apply on the paper form will only have their letters posted out on that day.

Cllr Antony Lillis, cabinet member for community and children’s services, said: “Starting schools is an incredibly exciting time for both children and parents and I urge parents to apply for their preferred schools as soon as possible.”

Parents can apply for up to three primary schools and are required to rank the schools in the order they would prefer them.

The closing date for applications is Friday 9 January 2009.
