Work Begins on Hammersmith Academy

Contractors to hold regular meetings with residents

Work is about to begin on the new Hammersmith Academy following the demolition of the former Stamford House young offenders' institute which previously occupied the site.

The building contractors say that during December, they plan to dig trial holes to cut off services, establish tree protection measures, remove demolition materials and begin piling, to create stong foundations for the new building.

The contractors say they have applied for parking bay suspensions in Cathnor Road to ease traffic congestion, but have assured residents that they are trying to organise their work so that the bays can be reopened as soon as possible. They say they will be holding regular meetings with the Cathnor Park Residents' Association and the Friends of the Hammersmith Academy to liaise on any local issues.

They also say the site will be registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme, which works to improve the image of the construction industry.

Work on the Melina Road site will be carried out at the following times:

08:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday
08:00 to 13:00 Saturdays
No noisy works on Sundays or Public Holidays
Work is permitted on site outside these hours as long as it is not causing a disturbance to the local area.

The contractors, Wates Construction, say they can be contacted at their Project Office on the site, which will be staffed during working hours.

Any out-of-hours incidents should be reported to UK Monitoring on 01274 387300, quoting the reference 'Hammersmith Academy'.
