Man ordered to repay money made from mortgage fraud
Hammersmith & Fulham Police are to seize over £200,000 from a local man convicted of mortgage fraud.
Robert Palmer, 45, of Askew Crescent in Shepherd's Bush, was sentenced to two years in prison in August 2009 after being found guilty of the fraud. He had obtained two mortgages by submitting payslips showing
he earnt around £60,000 a year working for an IT company. However, the payslips were fake and
the company did not exist.
Palmer was back at Kingston Crown Court on Friday 26th March for a confiscation
hearing. The court heard that the 45-year-old had made £520,455 from his
crimes and that he currently had assets worth £222,599. A Confiscation Order was
therefore made for this amount.
The money has to be paid within six months or Palmer will face a further two-and-a-half years in prison and still owe the debt.
DS Richard Gilbert of the Hammersmith & Fulham Payback Unit said: "This is a great
success. Credit should go to DC Ross Savage for securing convictions against Robert
Palmer and to AFI Lisa Munday for conducting a thorough financial investigation and
making sure Palmer pays back almost a quarter of a million pounds of criminal
benefit."
